Local TV Analysis: KPLR

The first thing that I noticed about Channel 11’s broadcast was that they too started off with a synopsis of what stories they were going to be featuring on that newscast. I really like this because I can see if I have already seen the stories they are going to run that night.
The anchors were Melanie Moon and Rick Edlund. Melanie was wearing a red suit jacket with a white, button up, collard shirt underneath it. Rick was wearing a navy blue jacket with a whit, button up, collard shirt underneath it and a blue and white striped tie.
One of the reporters that I saw was Tony Miller. He did a story on the sex offender who abducted a little girl and sexually assaulted her. Tony’s stand-up was in
Belleville and he was not reporting live.
Another reporter was Grant Murphey and he did a story about the election. His stand-up was outside the White House, but he was not reporting live.
Lastly, Theresa Petry was reporting about the residency rule change for officers. She had no stand-up and she was reporting from inside the newsroom.
Some of the stories that I remember from the 9 o’clock newscast was the registered sex offender who kidnapped a girl from her school and tried to rape her. A neighbor heard this and stopped it from happening.
Another story that I remember was about a heart condition that makes it extremely difficult for people to even breathe. They interviewed an older woman named Mary Ann who had this condition. She now has a new heart valve and is feeling a lot better.
Lastly, I remember the story about two little puppies that were thrown over an overpass in St. Louis. This story breaks my heart. The one puppy ran away and the other one suffers two broken legs. They are posting a reward fee for anyone who knows who did it.
My overall impression of the newscast was that I thought it was good. I liked the anchors and all of the reporters seemed to know what they were doing. The anchors were very appropriately dressed and they did a great job of speaking. I think they seem credible, but outside this newscast, they seem to always have the news a lot later than everyone else. I always watch 2 and 5 for my news, because they are my favorites, but sometimes 11 will come on if I was watching something previously on that channel and I will watch it. Other than that, I don’t really have a desire to watch 11 news.
